Recently, comedian/actor/Chicano personality at large, and sometimes “hot political take when it’s convenient guy,” George Lopez, went on daytime network talk show, The View, to discuss and promote his new show, Lopez Vs. Lopez. It was a pretty run of the mill interview/promo until George decided to make one of his famous “hot takes.”

In the middle of the interview Lopez looks at the audience/camera and makes an off the wall statement about drag performers and his support of them.

“Also, if you’re an enemy of drag, you’re an enemy of mine,” he says.

The comment was made in retort to a joke by host, Ana Navarro, who is seated next to Lopez. Navarro is a controversial and infamous “Hispanic” republican who is a regular host on The View. She’s also, oddly enough, Lopez’s friend.

Lopez high-fives Navarro and the audience applauds him and then they move on.

What, exactly, Lopez means by being an “enemy of drag” is up for debate but I think, given the context, we can at least take a pretty good stab at it. The real question however is why he chose to do that on The View and with GOP stooge Ana Navarro of all people, and does it even matter? Let’s find out.
