Have you sent a message to Mike? He’s usually pretty responsive, I’m thinking it’s a cemetery pic, the corners of the building must be in an area where there is not too much road traffic, so looking into a rectory plaza or cemetery is that sort of architecture, but most of the buildings around Venice that had religious significance back then were white plaster on the outside, the stonework siding is another reason I’m thinking it’s gotta be a cemetery & I’m sure it’s most likely the one that was closest to the stairs of the church where the back photo was taken…seems like Weiss woulda shot in an area where he took a couple of rolls of shots & they were looking for that gothic cemetery kinda vibe…

Yeah, I'm thinking that cemetery right by the church, just need to verify it. None of the photos I've seen from it have had that structure. Lots of pyramids there for some reason. I was kinda bummed Weiss didn't just outright say where it was taken, lol. I have not tried reaching out to Mike directly yet but that would be great. I don't think he has separate social media but I'm not sure? The band's Instagram does not usually respond to comments but I tagged them in my IG post. Might also send a message to the band's merch company, but am unsure it that's run by the band themselves or not. Thanks for the insight!

I’m sure Weiss just couldn’t remember, but a shoot like usually woulda been 5 carloads of folks, Weiss & his assistant, maybe 2, to handle equipment & a cooler & bounce boards, then a pretty committee (hair & makeup, probably Vesna & Michelle) & a wardrobe stylist, probably an assistant (honestly, it looks like they were just sporting gear from the SOV shop, so it was probably the manager Chita & Homeboy Roy) & they probably didn’t have permits, so it was jump out & shoot & run type afternoon, looks like the chosen shots have some golden hour, so it was most likely early morning or after 3pm (this more likely than early morning) in those shots…

Yeah, thinking the same. It was super cool of him to respond to my inquiry. I figured he'd think I was a quack...lol. It was in 1988 so ancient history comparatively. Again, dude, really appreciate the details on the process and people involved! That's really cool.

I worked on the ‘institutionalized’ ‘possessed to skate’ & ‘trip to the brain’ music vids, so I had a lil bit of experience in that world back then…

Ha! No shit? Dude, that is RAD! I know everyone loves Institutionalized and Skate (and I do too) but Trip at the Brain has to be one of my all-time fave videos. That shit blew my mind as a kid when I saw it. Nothing else like that since either. And I think Rocky George is one of the most underrated guitarists out there. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
