The elusive and never-ending 'Last Brown Beret' film project

Will it ever see completion? If 'Miklo' can make films why can't others??

The last time I wrote about actor/filmmaker, Del Zamora, was back when he was selling his couch on Facebook. It was a tongue-in-cheek poem that you can read here:

Unless we’re friends, or unless you’re hip to Chicano cinema, you’re probably saying: who? But I always counter that with this:

Chinese Indians

He’s the guy on the right — one the famous “Chinese Indians” from Cheech Marin’s seminal and now eerily relevant film, ‘Born in East L.A.’

Yes, the “Waassappening” guy. That’s Del Zamora. Anyway…

Del cropped up again and it prompted me to write about him (again) and his impossible film project, “The Last Brown Beret.”

It occurred to me that I’m the only person currently writing about Del Zamora so that strikes me as a little odd. Like, what’s my problem?

If Del reads these I imagine he thinks I’m a kook. And maybe I am. I wonder if he remembers that I published an essay by him in my anthology…probably not.

As chance would have it, a trailer for Del’s yet-to-be-completed film “The Last Brown Beret” came across my TikTok feed. Weird. In the description for the post it has a link to a GoFundMe page. Even weirder.
