Hi Sarlos, I knew about the nazi issue, and that has been enough to send me looking for an alternative, but I did not know about the misogyny and the rape lit. There is such deliberate manufactured 'confusion' between free speech and hate speech these days, when really, it is quite simple. No decent business should be profiting off the latter. That Substack chooses to do so tells us so much about them as human beings, and it is not a system I choose to support. I don't have many paid subscribers, so Substack will not miss me in the slightest, but if we left in droves, they'd have to rethink, right? I dont think my paid subscribers would want their money supporting naziism and misogyny either. Best of luck to you!

As someone who has no interest in reading the writing of Nazis or mysogynists, it's possibly obvious to me that in the Internet age if one wants to read truly uncensored writing, one has to tolerate the presence of writing that is extremely distasteful. Efforts like yours will ultimately lead to the censorship of perfectly valid positions, like anti-zionism.
I don't know if you're aware that when you pause or stop paid subscriptions you owe money to Stripe so they can pay back all the people who have yearly or founding member subscriptions.
I write an occasional unpaid Substack. I’m not sure where I would go. And, I’m not sure I want the hassle, workload and expense of maintaining my own independent blog somewhere.
Yet, this aspect of Substack bothers me, not a little.
I can attest to the misogyny. I joined SS last Aug. When “people” followed me, I’d read their profile just to see what they were into, like photography etc. There were many that stated explicitly that they were into porn and other deviant stuff. So I blocked. And I also blocked other maggots as well.
Then “someone” out of the blue DMd me DEMANDING that we talk on the phone. Blocked!
Then there was “someone” who claimed to be Justin Timberlake, and had the actor’s picture in his profile. He also DMd me insisting that we have a group discussion on some other social media site. Keep in mind I’m old enough to be the actor’s mother. Blocked!
I’ve also experienced condescension, mansplaining, and other crap like that. Blocked every one of them.
I use “someone” in quotes bc I don’t know if it’s a bot.
I ended up closing that account and opening up a new one with a different email address and no profile picture. It does get tiring having to play defense all the time.

I heard on a podcast in my Notes that they are targeting the LGBTQ and BIPOC some stacks have had their accounts inaccessible.This is a huge problem and in addition the venture capitalists tech bros donated a bunch of bucks to Substack and they are trumpets.

Well aware. I posted a Note that screen capped my cancellation and what I owed. Stripe has been less than stellar during my time on here.
